Oil pan removal in truck

Oil pan is rusted and needs replacement in my 96 4x4 5.8L.
Can it be removed with out lifting the engine?

It will have to be lifted. Then sneak a wrench in there and un-bolt the oil pump and let it drop into the pan. Now it will just make it between the crank and the front cross-member. You may need anothe person to rotate the crank to get past the throws. Good luck.

if you remove the upper intake you can get it lifted a bit further. its really not to bad once you get started.

Will removing the upper intake allow you to sneak it out without rotating the crank?

you do not have to turn the crank at all to get it out. remove the upper intake and lift the engine as high as it will go, mine used 7 inch blocks. Then you will be able to clear the pan fine even with the gasket on there. but you have to drop the pump and screen first.
