I just bought a 79 3/4 4X4 I found in a barn. The fan alt. and belts are off of it and there is a new water pump on the truck. The problem is the long bracket bolt is broken off in the head! how do I get it out without haveing to pull the head and take it to a shop?
If it's broken off flush with the block try an easyout. It's a tool that looks like a twisted punch with a square end on it. You drill a whole in the end of the bolt. Stick the easyout in it. Put a wrench on the end of the easyout and start turning. The edges of the easyout dig in to the whole you drilled and hopefully it turns the bolt.
Another tip I read about for bolts broken flush in cast iron. A fellow claims that a welder could weld on a stainless rod to the end of the broken bolt to give you something to grip with vice-grips. The helpful part is that the stainless won't stick to the cast iron in the welding process. You may still have to tow it to a welding shop or have a "house call", but that may be cheaper and/or easier than pulling a head.

Sometimes the simplest way is the easiest. Try spraying some liquid wrench on the bolt and then twisting it out with a screwdriver. If that doesnt work use a reverse drill bit and a reversible drill. This will usually back it out unless there is a lot of rust, corrosion, or the bolt is crossthreaded. In this event you will need to use the easy out that someone else mentioned. I also like the welding idea, I may use that myself sometime.
