First off want to say what an awesome forum this is. I've learned alot from you guys and finally ran into something that's got me scratchin' my head. Read about all the benefits of disconnecting the EGR valve so gave it a try this morning. Was about 5 miles into my "test-drive" when the speedo suddenly jumped about 25 mph above the displayed speed and then dropped down to but stayed at 25 mph when at a complete stop. Went back to the house, reattached the EGR and disconnected the batteries to clear any errant codes. After reconnecting the batteries started it back up and everything worked fine for about 5 miles and then the same thing except the needle indication was more erratic.
1. Is there a relationship between my disconnecting the EGR and the goofy speedo indication, and....
2. Any ideas on what it could be and if it can be fixed at the user level.
Thanks in advance for any help.
2005 6.0 PSD 2200 miles, no mods except for a turbo timer.
intresting problem, but I dont think there is any relationship whatsoever
there are members who have had theirs disconnected for thousands of miles without a single problem

There should be no relationship between the two.
Try this.
2005 F-Series Speedometer Needle Bounce, Cruise Control Drop Out, DTC P0500, and/or Uncommanded Wiper Activation:
If any of the above conditions are present, inspect the wiring harness running behind the coolant bottle to the wiper motor for chafing on a brake line clip and shorting to ground. If harness damage is found, repair and insulate the damage, and secure the harness away from the clip. Broadcast Message 3695.
I have no mods and my EGR is still connected. My 05 has 7000 miles on it. My speedo is all screwed up. It will drop down to 5mph and just stay there, or it might read up to 30 mph faster than what I am doing. The worst is when it is like 8 mph +/- and you are on a long trip in a strange town and the speed limit changes and you have no idea what speed you are going. I can stop, shut truck off and restart while holding the odometer reset button. This resets the gauges but the problem always comes back shortly.
