Hi, new to site. I have a 2005 6.0L Ford and at idle it sometimes bellows out BLUE smoke and sinks like you wouldn't believe! I had a 7.3 before for five and a half years and it NEVER did this. Also I'm getting 8-9 mpg around town empty! 2-3 mpg worse than my 7.3. Same driving same fuel? Dealer says evrything is fine. I would like to burn this truck to the ground. Any help?
PLEASE!

pull your plugs and see what color they are, that should tell you a lot of whats going on, might want to check your map senor.. blue smoke sounds like washed out rings, to much fuel will do that, drain your oil and if it smell's like gas it might be to late, take a compression test when it's warmed up, then take a leak down test, you will need a compressor and a set of air gauges, check for vacume leaks, these test will tell you whats going on, or take it to a local shop and have them hook it up to a computer and see what codes come up, god luck.

Ask (tell) the dealer that you want to speak directly with a 6.0 Certified Technician about the problem...which is probably caused by one of several very common and easily remedied issues. There is no reason that your truck should be spewing blue smoke and getting such poor mpg. Good luck

Pull the plugs? Gas? Did you reply to the correct thread?
LASTLS1, I would take it to a different dealer. I have heard of some bad mileage trucks but not that bad, and the blue smoke is by far not normal. How many miles are on this truck?
Darn sorry about that,no codes? that's strange whats your boost guage reading? still blue smoke worry's me, you can still wash out your rings with way to much fuel, do you have a turbo or super charger?

All PSD 6.0 or 7.3 have a turbo, no super-charger.

Andy,
I can't see your sig. What truck do you have? 250? 350? Dually? Any mods? How many miles? Are you the original owner? How long has this been going on (since you bought it & every tank, or just recently, maybe the last tank or 2)?
Have you checked your oil?? where is it on the dip stick? Does it smell like diesel fuel? If you pull the DS out & touck it to a clean papaer towel, does it have a single dark spot, or does it have a lighter "halo" around the dark spot? Have you ever had an Oil Analysis performed? If not, and you're ready to change oil, pull a sample at the change, if not, try to pull a sample any way. You may have fuel in the oil. Ford says 6% is OK, but that's very high. If your OA comes back with high fuel (over 2-3%), take it to a dealer & ask to have the injectors checked. If they tell you that 6% is OK & they won't check injectors, politely tell them to put it in writing, and the clock is now ticking for DSB.
Fuel - have you recently changed where you get fuel? Do you live in an area affected by the hurricanes & are you getting high sulpher off-road (do you check the nozzel before putting in your tank for dye)?
How's your turbo doing? Are you putting out enough boost?
It sounds to me like you are getting extra fuel somewhere. Those are the obvious places to check.

Thanks for your input. No mods, same fuel, same station. Oil was checked and fuel was present. Ford did say that 6% was normal. 5000 miles on the truck and yes I bought it new. Turbo seems to be working fine. I have changed the oil already and it's really bad again. The truck has been doing this since new. I also thought is was injectors, but they can only replace one or two at a time. Since it insn't throwing any codes they don't know which ones to change. It doesn't always smoke. It's the worst when the truck idles for 15-20 minutes, then drive to the first couple of stop lights and the blue smoke will surround the truck! People roll up their windows and make funny faces! My kids complain that they feel sick when I drive them to school and it's only a few miles. It makes me so mad. They also rode in my 7.3 for five years so it's not like they have never been in a diesel. I'm at witts end. I called Ford corp. and wasted a hour and twenty minutes for nothing. My friend works at a local ford dealer and he doesn't know what to do. He said that he's seen some of them smoke and some not. It's under warranty and I offered to pay him cash money just to solve the problem! He has no ideas. Andy.
I would go back to the dealer, and set it up to get a "flight recorder", and or stay at the dealer & let it idle for a bit & try to reproduce it there. Get a video camera and carry that around with you . If it starts up smoking, start the camera. Politly let the dealer know the clock is running on a DSB problem, and you are documenting everyting they "tell you". Every visit gets logged, & and every conversation recorded. Do you have copies of the OA? If nothing else, have them recallibrate the truck to see if that will increase the milage. Be polite, but firm, and let the managment / ownership know you have serious concerns about the truck. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING! You may need to start calling Ford Customer Care as well. State your concerns, and tell them this is starting the clock on a DSB - Lemon proceeding, what can they do to keep it from going DSB?
The next time you change oil, measure how much comes out. When you put more in, measure that too, then next change measure how much comes out. If you're "making oil" its got to be fuel leaking from somewhere.
I have an 05 6sd. Had the same problem you have. Had local dealer do an oil change for me and found the reading on the stick a little over the top. I droped about 2 quarts out, reading just a little over min now, and it stoped the blue smoke.
