Just picked up a 76 f250 equiped with a (home made) flat bed and real nice snow plow. The guy I bought it off of said it had a 460 in it I was thinking it was to old to have a 460 but I've been wrong before. What where the motor choices of this year .This thing sure does have some bounce in her step.Bought this truck cause it was a little newer than my other plow truck (64 f250 4x4) the wife said it needed too much work so I needed to find something newer for my little project. I looked at quite a few of trucks in the 73-79 year range and they all seemed to have brake and steering problems (including the on I bought but for $400 bucks where could I go wrong) is this a common problem on these trucks just like floor boards rusted out just a typical ford problem you deal with?
Sounds like a good project - can't go wrong for $400. I'm assuming it's a 4x4. The factory motor choices would be 300 I6, 302, 360, 390. I don't think the 351/400 was available until '77 and the 460 was in 2wd only until the early '80s when it was offered in the 4x4s. But any engine could've been swapped in. Count the valve cover bolts to identify the engine size.
Yours should have front disc brakes which are very nice, but will have the old ram style power assist steering. Most are unhappy with them and swap the the better '77-79 integral power steering box - there's a tech article about this, 'Articles/Specs' link at top of page.
