Hey, considering buying a 1991 Ford Ranger Regular Cab Short box, 2.3l, 5-speed, very good condition, one owner, 180,000Kms, new battery, exhaust, tires, tinted windows, for $1500 obo Canadian. I know this is a good deal i would just like some opinions on this truck.
How reliable are they? How powerful is the 2.3? Are they also a good commuter truck that is good on gas? Will i be able to tow anything with it? Spin the tires??
Any advice or opinions on this truck would be greatly apprciated! Thanks again, Neil

Hey there. Let me tell you about my ranger first. I've got a 91 with the 2.3 exactly like the one you're looking at. 5 Speed and all. I just turned over 307,000 miles on the original engine and tranny (2nd clutch).
On a scale of 1-10
Reliability-10
Power-4,5ish
Mileage- 8. I just did a 268 mile round trip on the highway and got 33.5 MPG. Normal conditions I average around 23 to 24 MPG.
Towing- 2. I once pulled 2 jet skis with mine and she didnt like it. That was with 250,000 miles on it though...
Spinning the tires- 1. If you are making a sharp turn on wet pavement and you have it mashed to the floor in 1st gear, you might get lucky.
Basically to sum it all up, the trucks with these engines are not powerhouses, But they trade that for miles or reliability, decent fuel mileage, and that 5 speed is pretty fun to drive.
I bought mine back in 97 for $2000 US. The guy needed money and I was needin a good little truck. That I did get...
Great truck and especially engine. Take care of it and it will last pratically forever. There is an article on here somewhere about a Ranger with over 345,000 miles on it. Not much of a puller, but it'll get you from A to B with great reliability and gas mileage.
