Change Clutch in 1988 F150, 4.9L 4 Speed
Just got this 88 Ford pickup and noticed that the clutch is slipping. It is is a 4.9 six with a four speed and a BW transfer case. I called around to several shops and the estimates to change the clutch, press plate and resurface the flywheel ranged from 450 to 750. I have changed trannys and clutches in cars before so I have decided to go after this one myself as well. It looks like that with the drive shafts removed, that the bell housing/trans and transfer case can slide reward enough for the clutch and fly wheel to be removed and replaced. It also looks like there is enough line on the slave cylinder such that it does not need to be disconnected either. Any tips or handy hints are most welcomed as well as experiences learned from anyone having done the same change themselves. Thanks.
