I would like to use the FORD script off an older tailgate, inserting it into a tailgate I am building for my 1959.
I looked at one on eBay off a Model A and that would work, as well as the newer ones. If possible I would like to get the entire raised panel - the large box that outlines the Ford script logo.
My brother offered me one off his 48, but it was too good - I do not want to destroy a useable tailgate. I know that there are many out there with the bottom rusted through -
Anyone have that piece of sheetmetal that they would part with?
*****, I have one off a '48 as well, inside with FORD is pretty good, but needs a few repairs up top. It may be what you are looking for.
Thing is I was going to repair it, but since you brother has one he doesn't need, how about we work a trade? Of course I'd kick in the bucks to make it worth it.
Send me a PM if you think we can work it out, I'm north of you somewhere...in Oakdale.
Mike, it is possible. Problem is that both the tailgate and the brother are in Wyoming. In any case, if I wind up with one that is better than yours we can swap. I wouldn't worry about money - I have been looking for an excuse to spend the day in your neck of the woods anyway.
I did this same thing to a 38 tonner I drove for years.I called a guy that advertises in Hemmings and Vintage Truck who reproduces tailgates. I asked if he could slide a pc of steel into his press and just make me a rectangle with the logo. What he sold me was a panel that goes ahead of the fender under the box...he does them for street rodders that want the Ford logo in that location. He stocks them and it was cheap. The piece is about 8x20" roughly.Problem is it was about 12 years ago and dont remember who.(Maybe Mark Co.). I will look in some old magazines to refresh my memory.Good luck
