Looking to buy a 2002 Ranger FX4 and I have some Questions.
Like the tittle says. I want a 2002 FX4, or 2003 FX4 level 2 ranger with the manual transmision and t-case. I would like to hear what the owners of this truck have to say about performance, quality, dependability, problems, anything you can think of will help.
A few questions...
I had a 99 xlt 4x4 with the pulse vacuum hub system - the 4x4 failed me constently. I sold it last year and want to give Ranger's another chance! My question is did they eliminate the PVH lock system and go with a full time front driveline with engagement at the t-case? If so, is the new system dependable?
Does the 2002 do funky things like turn the windshield wipers on out of no where? Do the door ajar hazard and dome light go on at random? anything indicate a faulty GEM or other electrical components?
Lastly, my truck will be under frequent mild to moderate off road conditions and will double as my DD. I plan on lifting with RCD and putting on 33" MT tires. Is the 02-03 FX4 and/or level 2 tough enough for the job?
I know lots of questions! All and any answers will help me. I thank you guys in advanced.

Yes, they are full time with engagement at the t-case. Personally I like manual hubs...

My 2002 has about 55k on it now, haven't had much problems with it. Had to have some tranny repairs and PCM replaced at about 25k. Other than that runs great. I do get ocasional door ajar light when it really cold, like -10F.
A friend with a 2002 had to have his rear diff rebuilt.

I don't do hardcore offroading, but I feel confident my Ranger can handle anything I would do in my F150. It's also lighter and more agile. The only reason I would use my F150 over the Ranger is because the F150 allready has alot of dents, and rust.
i do not have an fx4 but i do have a 2000 xlt ext.cab 4x4 and it has 82000mi. i do know they're a little touched on these as far as price is concerned but they are a good looking truck. with the equipment they are offered with, i'd rather add my own stuff like i did. i do alot of four-wheelin with it and it handles everything i throw at her within moderation. i do not rock-crawl or things like that and i like to keep my truck lookin good, just like gettin it dirty. it has a 3"body-lift and 31" kellys with some other mods! good luck and have fun.
