Is there a place on this venue to discuss F-O-R-D vans ('99)(V-6)(Full size) ???
The work van I drive needs a good diagnosis.
The "guys" who "check it out" haven't found the solution to "the problem".
I feel a definite hesitation, kinda like when the accelerator pump in a carb isn't working properly.
I'm afraid to pull out from a side street, unless there is a quarter of a mile with no cars coming.
The "funny" thing about the "problem" ???
"IT" doesn't do "IT" all the time.
Kinda like a gotcha, your not sure when the next one is coming.
The "service engine light" has been on for months, and months.
"They" (supposedly) did a "tune up" on the van a few months ago.
I was trying to relate the problem to the (damp) weather.
NOT.
PPFFfffTtt !!!......................or..................s##t !!!
I guess I'll just have to drive it like I am getting paid by the hour.......;>)
Maybe the 1968 - present full size vans or the 4.2L forum? BTW, what do the "guys" who "check it out" have to say about the CEL and the associated codes that I hope they pull and use in their diagnosis?
Gene,
first thing you should do is stop by an auto zone, or an advance auto and ask them to pull the OBDII codes for you. Make sure you write them down. If all else fails bring them here, these guys are good at handing out useful advice...they will surely know where to look for the error codes.
First of all, there's a van forum on here. It's listed under "Other Fords." Secondly, if you think the possibility exists that it's more related to the 4.2 than to the fact that it's a van, then post in the "3.8 & 4.2 V6 Engine" forum.
Guessing probably isn't helpful, but I'm going to guess you'll get a code for the DPFE sensor or EGR, one or the other.
