I am the proud owner of a '88 Bronco of which the locking hubs are not working. I wanted to replace them with WARN items but that seems not to work ?
What are the alternatives besides a conversion kit ? Are the OEM ones any good ? If so what is the price of them ? It is not easy to get those parts for a reasonable price here.
sweden huh? hows the weather there?
Anyway, how many bolts or screws are holding the hublocks on? if its 5 or 6 then regular warn hubs will bolt on. if 3 screws then they offer a conversion kit for a little more.
Are your hubs auto or do they have *****?
If the stock hubs are anything like the warn hubs i have they have a series of little allen bolts, that you use the allen wrenches for and the whole hub pulls right off.
Depending on what you have for hubs currently, you may require the conversion kit. No way around it, i'm afraid. Other wise, go nuts. My theory is, if your going to replace a part, you might as well upgrade. The Warn Premiums are not much more money than the standards and well worth it in my opinion.
Some Broncos of that vintage came with some weirdass flange mounted hubs that are no longer available anywhere but in wrecking yards, even in the US. Not sure how much Broncos are in Sweden, but it may be difficult to do anything with that setup. You need to be able to mount a standard manual hub like Warn, and that may require some changes to your front end.
broncograveyard.com sells the conversion kit to get away from those flange style hubs. those flange style hubs are made by warn actually and are decent but not as pulletproof as the full warn style hubs. if you can locate a wrecking yard with a bronco that is older then 87 or new then 88 you can basicly take everything from the knuckles out and swap them in place. just look at the kit on that website and you will see the parts you would need. i to have the flange style hubs but they are still working and i have a spare set when they decide to fail on me
Just another Swede here, so there is definetely two bronco 88's in Sweden because i have one too!
If you believe you have some kind of unusual locking hubs you could send me a pic so i can compare with my hubs.
-Or send me your email adress and i'll send you a pic of my locking hubs so you can make shure what type they are.
As far as getting the right parts here in sweden, well...i wouldn't even bother.
I buy most of the parts i need in the US. Make shure you get them shipped with DHL and you will have no problems.
By the way, where in sweden are you?
Kul att det finns fler svenskar med samma modell här!
