Does anyone know if a 3 Speed OD will straight change for a 3 speed OD? I know I will have to get a driveshaft made, but if I could find a OD and it would fit I would definitely make the change
if you use a truck trans with overdrive its not hard, shorter driveshaft and you will need the electrical components and an overdrive cable...isn't a T85 from a passenger car??? in which case it wont work, the input shaft is to short and a different diameter
I bought a '51 Merc 3 speed OD and changed over the main drive gear and side cover from my '53 F 100 light duty 3 speed. that way the longer larger diameter spline fits the clutch and pilot bearing and the side cover has the 2 threaded bosses needed to hook up the clutch linkage from the pedal. I think that the newer 3 speedOD units have diffrent 3 speed components, but most of the OD stuff is interchangable. The '55 and newer ones ( R-10'S not R-11'S ) have 12 volt solinoids, if you plan on changing that way. Jeff
ggod luck, it took me a long time to find a 3spd OD for my 60, but it is sure nice to have, I used a junk yard driveshaft, had it shortened and balanced, so I could keep the origanal trans and driveshaft for backup....I never found a Ford solonoid at a decent price..so I have one out of a GM trans in it becuase it was only $20
