Am I looking at two different systems here? The first set of pictures show the basic goodies of internal support and the rod accross the top of the radiator valance. The last few pics show door hinges. Are they all the same system? Or did you change. I may be confused (again).
Looks like you set it up without the engine in there, which would certainly make life easier to measure stuff! I think that's the hardest part of designing hood stuff.
Randy,
Sorry I should have been more clear. Only the last 4 pics are the new system.
And the engine is in place, just can't see it in the pics.
I used the hood suport bars from the old system in my new,Also used many of your Ideas, such as cutting the rad valance and fender flange, however I left the partof the valance that extends out to the fender, just trimed the front hump off.

Hey Mike, looks very promising. Why the "do over?" I am a little nervous about this new attempt. Are the hinges or the brackets visible from the front when the hood is down? Also, how sure are you of the gauge of metal on those hinges? (Thick enough?) This approach is very different from the first. I can see a whole range of possible custom adaptations. Different pivot points and adjustment variations. Thanks for sharing. I hope that this one does the trick for you. If anybody can invent a "new mousetrap" it's gotta be you. Jag

Well John, First off I really didn't like the two stage open, it seemed to be a bit of a contraption.
The hindges are industrial grade, 3/16" steel with removeable pins, should be strong enough.
No nothing is visiable when the hood is down, all hidden.
I also have gas lift shocks to go on it, they will mount near the top of the rad valance and go to my hood suport bars under the hood. Theese will be no wider the the hump on the valance, so they shouldn't be in the way for engine access.
I HOPE,,, We'll see
Mike
I agree that the hinges will certainly handle the weight. The gas shocks work really well on mine, and your location of them may improve engine access dramatically.
Randy,
I'm in the mist of completeing a garage addition right now. Prob. know in a few weeks.
Just a note I'm planing on adding a cross member to my under hood suports in order to keep the shocks in toward the middle as far as I can.
I'll let you know how it all works
Mike
