Need Best Method for Break-In

We bought a 2005 F-150 4WD XLT for the wife. (my kind of woman) I am not clear on the best break-in method. We made a short run yesterday, about 200 miles, but will be taking a 1700 mile trip in a couple weeks. I want to get this 5.4 off on the right foot.

Steady cruising speeds are discouraged for the first 500 miles. No towing either.

Varying RPMs is encouraged.

Take the scenic route till you hit 'bout 1000K. Drop the oil then drive it "normal".

All engines are run in at the factory so break-in in not as crucial but you gotta remember that you are breaking in more than just an engine.

After the first oil change (at 1K) on both my trucks, they visited redline on more than one occasion. The first 1K I kept them below 3500 rpm.
