Two of the greats but I've gotta say Sam Elliot is a natural at westerns and I really liked Pierce Brosnan as 007. I don't think Brosnan will be back as 007 so who replaces him.
Sam Elliott was great in Tombstone, but I loved his character in We Were Soldiers (Sgt Maj Basil Plumley). Hope he makes dozens more flicks like those two. As for 007, no idea. Nobody (even Brosnan, although I liked him) was as good as Connery.
How about Hellboy, himself (Ron Pearlman), as the John Wayne type?
Maybe Owen Wilson as 007? J/K about that one...
Yea, Sam is too old, and so is Brosnan. Ron Pearlman is getting to the top of the hill - so he's too old. We're looking at maybe 10 to 15 years of filming - somebody that hang in there for the duration.
And, Stu, Owen Wilson?!?!? (not!)
We've got to select a man under 30 years of age...don't you think? At most 35?
I also like Brosnan very much as 007. Too bad the last three Bond movies have been pretty poor. Like almost all action movies nowadays the special effects are WAY overdone, the acting is poor by most of the cast, etc... Seems like the last real good Bond film was Goldeneye, IMO.
For westerns... can't say. Gene Hackman's always good, Morgan Freeman was good... won't ever be another Eastwood or John Wayne. Besides, I think Western's made today wouldn't be much to get excited over. The last western made that was good was Unforgiven, IMO, and even THAT was far different from the older westerns.
I like Sam Elliot also for westerns, but another good one is Tom Selleck.
Never did like Brosnan.
As for selecting somone under 30, those I have seen under 30 don't really have any character yet. They need to mature quite a bit before you can start looking at them like Wayne, Eastwood, or Bronson replacements.
Anybody remember what western movie this line was in- Damn Tom, he shot my ear off? Seems like it was a Sam Elliot movie but I can't remember.
I'd say that their isn't anyone that can fill those shoes because they are one of a kind type actors.
Hope that got a laugh out of you. He was pretty funny in Shanhai Noon/ Shanghai Knights.
Seriously, though, what about Scott Caan (Gone in 60 Seconds, American Outlaw, Boiler Room)? He has the rugged look, but I don't know how well he will develop into that type of role. A few years ago, I would have said Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson and Bruce Willis, but they're getting up there in age.
So few good actors worthy of replacing John Wayne and Sean Connery.
And the good ones that could replace them are about the same ages as Connery and Wayne; if still alive.
I know...been racking what's left of the gray matter twixt my ears.
Where's the real men in Hollywood?
The Rock? ...please
Are we ever going to have any good westerns anymore without the Duke, or Clint, William Holden, James Stewart, Henry Fonda, Robert Redford, Robert Duvall, Randolph Scott, Gary Cooper...
Any more movies that'll ever be Built Ford Tough? (John Ford, that is)
And what about Connery's role? When Brosnan is gone, who's in line? A Hugh Grant type....
Hope that got a laugh out of you. He was pretty funny in Shanhai Noon/ Shanghai Knights.
I could picture that nose getting shot off - for real...

Maybe - if there was genuine toughness. Thing is John Wayne and Sean Connery were both tough in real-life. Now all we have is big mouth wannabe's on steroids or made-up men with some sort of "rapper" disease...
what about that guy from the movies "The Transporter" and "The Itailan Job" for the new 007, Frank Martin. he could use a little more hair but i think he would be good
