I went to North Dakota with my parents in my '97 last weekend. On the way, the battery light started flashing but it didn't stay on. The truck still ran normally when the light flashed.
Should I take it as a sign that the battery is beginning to lose its juice? Or could rough roads with potholes and bumps cause the light to flash or something?
I need your help on this before something happens.
It could either be just a battery, or a symptom of a bigger issue. How many miles on the truck? If you're hitting 100k, you may need some new brushes on the alternator.
You can pretty much plan on putting an alternator on it. 99% of the time if the battery light is on its the alternator. Very very seldom, if ever, will a bad battery turn the light on unless your battery is shorted out. Sounds like its just starting to go.
Sorry, guys. I had to work at the fair for 3 days. It was a busy time.
I was looking around under the hood and guess what I discovered? A loose battery cable!!!!
No, it doesn't come on during acceleration and ever since, I haven't seen the battery light come back on. I think it was a loose battery cable. I don't know what could have caused the cable to loosen.
