I have a 59 F250 4X4. I have found the vin plate just need some help with what the numbers mean. I need to find out the tranny and axle specs, The transmission code is 13B, and i think the axle codes are 2F and 44. Also the stated H.P. is 158 what motor is this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If it's aV8, most likely a 292, 6 cyl was a 223. You should post the whole serial number and it will be decoded by someone here.
13B= date code of Feb 13, 1959
2F= trans code T98 Warner 4 speed
44=? axle code listed was 6.80 ratio, too low for F-250
Your truck has a Dana 60 axle with either 4.56, 4.88 or 5.87 to 1 ratio. Look for tag on cover or stamping numbers on housing.
They don't always stamp the codes directly under the spots on the tags.
That serial number is from a F-600 truck, cab or door has been replaced somewhere in it's life. Yours should start with a F26xxxxxxxx, being a 4x4. Look on the top edge of the frame railsfrom the front cab mount area forward, you may have to sand and use a mirror, depending on where it's stamped. That's why the 44 axle code. It was listed for a 15,000 lb axle in a larger truck. Forget what I listed, it's wrong. Get the original serial number off the frame, you can;t dispute that.
This plate was in the glove box on the back of the door. There wasnt one one the door frame or door. I will look for the other one, Thanks for the insight.
