You can buy aftermarket drop axles. I have also heard a lot of talk in this forum of people removing some of the leaves (I think every other one) from their spring pack until they get the desired height. I guess you just have to weigh your options. My dad tells me that back before they sold aftermarket drop axles, they used to heat them up and bend them--I don't recommend this though. Good luck--
You can also use reversed eye leaf springs(about 2"-3") or buy a pair of monoleaf springs that will lower it about 4". These options are available for the rear also.
i think the reverse eye leafs sounds like the easiest way to go ,,,,, i was thinking about only lowering the front to give a bit of a rake look,,,,, now to find the reverse eye leafs . thanks for the help guys
Craig, try the list of vendors that support FTE. They are listed at the top of the forum. If you can't find what you want there, check here http://www.clubfte.com/users/earl/Pa...dor_Links.html for a list of additional parts vendors. Good luck!
thanks alot Earl , maybe ill find a four barrel intake and some headers for the old 239 to . this is great site everyone is so helpful and knowledgeable
Hey if your still looking to lower.....I just did the job on my 54 f100. I used mono reverse eye in the front with new bushings and used a rear drop shackle on the back of the rear along with relocating the forward-rear mounts from the bottom of the frame to the top...I did not remove any leafs in the rear stacks so i could haul "stuff" without too much bottoming. Not too hard a job, the biggest hurdle is cleaning everything up so you can work on it...I had just sandblasted and sprayed my setup.
What I ended up with is a 1.5 inch drop in the rear and a 4 7\8 inch drop in the front. It looks really good, but I wont know how good until the motor and cab are back on.
Good Luck
ps....HotRodstrucks.com has the suspension and I am real pleased with the headers I got from Sanderson's.

Mid Fifty's catalog has a chart of lowering options and the results of each choice. You can pick and choose (they are additive) to get the results and ride quality within your desires and budget. My truck has a 2" dropped axle and reversed eye springs front, reversed eye springs rear, Looks/rides very well IMHO. I can't have it down in the weeds since I will be towing a large car trailer with it.
wow thats sounds real cool ed your sounds like ti has the look im looking for with mine ,,, im trying kind of keep it old school kind of a rat rod look not all primped and shiny but look like it just came back form the 50's once again thanks for the help guys ..... oh and im loking for a wolf whistle to. i had some pictures but couldnt post them cause they were not in jpeg form so when i get some more ill see if i can post them i like to lok at all nice trucks on this web site gives me inspiration lots of talent here
Sacramento Vintage sells the reverse eye main spring only for the front and rear. It would lower the front about 1.5" and it only cost $65. You would keep your original leafs just change out the main spring. I've done the lowering thing and would love to get another inch in the front. I only have about an inch of play between the axle and frame. Not sure what you guys did with the 4" lowering??????????
I have the same problem, I have 3" but no rubber snubber right now. I was wondering if the front end could be notched the same as the rear.

Christopher- I don't think the front frame can be notched, but who knows. Never seen it done. You should put some type of snubber on the frame. What I did was take a round piece of neoprene rubber, drilled a hold in the middle and bolted it through where the original goes. The rubber is only 1/2" thick but it still prevents the metal to metal pounding when the front end bottoms out.
Hey ....Here's another question on the lowering. While the back is close enough for stock length shocks I was thinking of a pair of air shocks so I could stiffen the rear when hauling, I'll be running 10 inch wide rims and dont want to bottom out on the fender lips, but on the front I hav'nt found a "cheap-but-good" pair of shorter shocks. All I've seen are about 50 to 60.00 each. I like the look of the chromed shocks but need something to help get that smoother ride I am looking for. Any Ideas ???
