ok, this is what im doing. i have a I6 300 92 f150, with 151,000 miles. i have an extra head that has 140,000 miles on it. i cleaned the vales, they look ok. exhaust vales have a little tan tint to them, but look good. the intakes cleaned up nicely. im going to lap them. the head is going to be shaved .045, i tried looking for a multi layer head gasket cause it compresses to .021 thick, but no luck. so im stuck with the fel pro that compresses to .044. i have new valve springs to match the crane cams truck cam(260-270). the rocker arms are going to be stock with the exeption of roller inserts from a newer GM3.8 roller rocker arm. im not sure about the rollers just yet but will find out if they work, soon.
my engine is running good, no leaks and or is not smoking. oil still looks good after 4,500 miles, almost all miles are highway at 2,100 rpm at 70-75 mph (3.08 gears). my truck is a five speed, 4x4.
i expect 35 more horses and 30 ft pounds torque. hp and trq are limited to 12lb. injectors. dont know if i want 19's yet or not.
all ideas are wellcome thank you
PS thermostate will be 180 *, timing at 11 btdc. all smog equipment still in tac.

Reason: more info.
are the new springs your running going to be dual springs? if so ull have to the valve guides cut down and machined for positive style press on seals because the umbrella type seals wil get shredded by the inner spring (dont ask how i know). i recomend going to an adjustable valvtrain, since u r shaving the head that much, using cranes pushrod guide plate and stud conversion for a sb ford and rockers for either a 75 300 or a 75 chevy 250(1.73 ratio instead of 1.65). its a much stronger setup and will making setting the lifter preload alot easier (zero lash plus 1/2 turn).
one other, thing dont plan on running 87 any more (i can get away with 89), or this thing idelling at the right rpm or your fuel curve to be right. mine idels at about 1200 and runs richer than hell but i have 19lb injectors but the pressure is backed down to 39 psi so its just a little over stock fuel with the 14s
here is my list of mods. But it is soon to have a 450cfm 4bl, offy 360o manifold, and DSII ignistion because im tired of pissing aroungd with the computer
300 bored .040 over and zero decked 9.5:1 CR
306 ci a true 5.0L
mild head work
Comp 260h cam
rocker stud conversion
351 trottlebody
19 lb/hr injectors with adjustable fuel pressure regulator
the head has no umbrella type seals they are all positive type. do i still need to have the valve guides machined.
you have a 351 throttle body? any upgrades done to intake plenum to fit it?
as far as gas goes i have always ran 89 or higher in all my vehicals, urban asault vehicals included. i dont mind going to 92 if i have to.
that adjustable valve train is a good idea, ill look more into it. i have a bone yard across from were im doing the work, ill look through there. the rollers from the 3.8 seam to fit fine, except for the side to side play. were i put the roller part of the rockers in the stock rocker arms of the 300.
if that dosnt work ill take your idea and make up my own version of it. ther is a bolt factory not far from were a am, ill have them make up some studs to screw into the heads and fit the sb chevy rocker arms. ill probly drill the pedestolls for the studs and place a roll pin in it just for insurance with the stud.
if u go to screw in studs thenn ull need pushrod quide plates so the crane kit with the studs, guides, holders, and bushings for $90 is well worth the expenditure to do it right the first time and there is no machine work required.
i ported the upper pleunum to match the throttle body. ill have it for sale in a month or so when i go to carb if ur interested in it
