94 4.0 Ranger starting problems when warm
Now that i think about it, it sounds like a leaky fuel injector. I bet after driving it for a while, the heat somehow makes the injector stick open, then when i shut it off, the injector is still open, and leaks out all my fuel pressure into the intake manifold chamber. Completely flooding it with gas. so when i go to restart the engine, it floods that cylinder more, and doesnt put out enough fuel pressure to the other injectors, causing the miss, and the engine dieing upon restart.
Then its probably stuck open the whole time i'm driving it, causing my truck to hiccup and burp at idle. Also causing me to get 12 town and 18-19 max long highway trips. This also explains the gas smell. It would also explain why it sometimes backfires if i'm driving rather fast up to a stop sign, slam on the brakes to come to a complete stop, then slam on the gas again.
does this sound like a correct diagnosis? Or could it be somethign else, or does somthing i say not add up? please let me know? this problem is driving me batty to know that i'm getting 12 mpg when i could be getting more all due to a stupid fuel injector.
Also, check you oil, if you bleeding off the residual fuel pressure and the fuel is making into the cylinders it's probably making it's way past the rings.
If one injector is leaking all the time I would expect the plug would show the rich condition in that cylinder.
