oil pressure gauge or switch?

How do I know if my 1990 f250 witn a 302 have a oil pressure gauge or an on/ff switch?

If it is a switch, how come does it fluctuates on any given day? Some day it is before N, other days it will be between R and M. The engine always sounds the same and the power never changes.

You have posted this question already and there was no need for this one.

There is no switch it's either a electrical or mechanical guage. The answer i gave you on your other thread was this: "Your best bet would be pick up a good mechanical guage from the parts store, A lot more accurate than the factory one." The Ford factory guages are not always accurate therefore you will see variations in them.

No, I was told from several places that Ford made the electrical gauge sensor first, and after too many people starting bringing it in for warranty work based on the gauge, changed to sensor which only switched on and put it right in the middle of the scale if it was above the minimum.

I don't know how to tell them apart other than the gauge climbs and falls a bit based on what the engine is doing. You can also ask a knowledgeable auto parts guy which one you're buying.

The switch will be aprox 1" tall and 1" in dia. The pressure sending unit is 3" or so tall and 1-1/2" dia. Bottom line, pressure sender is much larger than the switch. I believe your year is the switch if it is stock.

My '93 has the switch and the gauge moves around like yours. I presume it is due to voltage variations and poor connections in the system.
