How many of you guys have had their tires replaced by Ford???? My dealer insists that Ford won't replace tires to correct ride quality (i.e. Goodyears to Michelins). I know some of you had this done, but what I am hoping I can compile a list to show my dealer and the regional service rep that there are Expy's changed and when.
I think you're posing a generic warranty question to a specific model issue. Has Ford changed out tires on F150's to attempt to correct vibration problems? Yes, I've heard of and seen that- but only on F150's. Have they done it on an Expy? Not to my knowledge.
Just met the regional service rep yesterday. I explained the problem to him and he looked at the service manager and asked why that was so hard to do. I almost didn't like the condesention but I am now going to get 4 new Michelin LTX M/S to see if that corrects the vibrations. I should be getting them on by weeks end. Now for those keeping score, I now have had 10 new tires, 3 road force balances and a bunch of puzzled looks all before 7,000 miles. Pretty cool, huh?
Well this just sucks, I had rotated my tires a couple of times (in the driveway), no problems to speak of, just a little vibration nothing to say lemon law. I decided to have Ford do a road force balance as I had it in to have the axle ring and pinion replaced under a TSB. Wouldn't you know it, I have the daggone vibration back!!!!!!!!!! I am going to call the service writer on Monday and start the process all over again. Yeah for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The rear was making a slight whine at speed, they performed a tsb on the issue. As far as the balance and rotation, I ws hearing a little of the out of balance sound from the tires and with all of the problems I've had, #1- to make sure the tires are balanced to make sure the don't get chopped up and have no leg to stand on and #2 make sure Ford does the operation so the dealership can't make the all too common blame that Joe's tire shop messed up your balance and it will cost $89.00 to make sure that the balance is correct Mr. Dansker.
In theory, there isn't anything they could do to knock a tire out of balance with that repair, But I see why you had it checked. Cautionary note- that Rr could get noisy again- about one in three do. Whether it's worth having it repaired if it does is another question. We've yet to see one fail, and have had some come through in the mid-150's for mileage.
