Can anyone tell me what fuse #23 does?

'00 XLT 4X4 5.4 90,000

I just picked up my new (used) X a few days ago. So I'm new to Ford Trucks, New to the Expy, and New to FTE. I really like the truck though and have been spending all my spare time reading all I can find about my new ride. Thanks for all the valuable info that you guys put out there for Newbies like me to learn from.

O.K. What is fuse #23 for? Everything seems to be working fine but I pulled the fuse panel cover off to check something and noticed that fuse #23 had a small piece of brassy looking metal wedged in on one side of the fuse where it plugs into the socket. I was curious so I pulled the fuse out and the piece of metal fell out. I didn't bother to put it back since it didn't really seem to belong there in the first place.

Now I'm curious as to why it was there. I don't have an owner's or service manual so I was wondering if someone could tell me what that fuse does so I could do a little further investigation.

Thanks for the help.

SunBum,

The brass piece is used to power an aux device such as a ham radio, scanner, or any 12vdc device that you would like to add without cutting into the vehicle's wiring harness. I didn't look to see what fuse 23 does.

Fuse 23 is a 10 amp and is for:Aux A/C,Heated seats, Trailer tow battery charge, turn/hazard flasher,4x4 clutch relay, overhead console, E/C mirror, 4 wheel ABS module

It basically supplies power to the swithes that control relays.

yeah but the major thing is that most of those things turn off with the ignition. when I wired fog/driving lights up on my wifes car I ran a wire to the fuse controlling the radio, knowing it would shut off when the igniton was off.

What ever it controlled/ powered the previous owner took it with them?

Thanks for the info...

Like you mentioned, he was probably just getting power for some accessory that is no longer with the truck. I never thought of this as a possibility, but it now makes sense.

Thanks again, I guess it's nothing to worry about.
