I changed my oil and filter yesterday and decided its finally time to mount the oil filter in a better location. It is just too much of a hassle and messy with the stock filter location on the '00. It also makes pre-filling the filter nearly impossible. I am considering the PermaCool relocation kit and mounting the filter on the frame like the earlier models had. Does anyone have this kit or experience with it? I would like to get opinions on it before ordering.
I was looking at this as well. I have a 98 expy that already has the remote filter behind the fender. Makes oil changes a breeze, but my problem is the crimps (hose to rigid tube) is expiring and starting to leak. I added a couple of hose clamps in an effort to slow the leak, not working. I priced the OEM replacement, $185. No thanks. Let us know how it goes.
For your crimped hoses, if you can remove them, take them to a hydraulic shop that stocks fittings and hose. They'll probably have the stuff and can make you new hoses, unless it has some odd ball fittings for this application only. Most likely would cost $15-20 per hose, maximum.
