1977 F-150 Instument Lights

I recently picked up a 1977 F-150 Ranger XLT. I'm not a mechanic, but I do like to do minor things to the truck. My latest challenge is getting the instument panel lights to work. About half of them do.

I've removed the plastic frame, etc. But the lamps appear to be in the enclosed plactic housing of the instument cluster. Anybody know how to get to these lamps to change them?

I can get to the lamp that will illuminate the "Light" and "Wiper" side, but not the instument panel itself. For instance, the gas gauge cannot be read in the dark.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,

P.J. Jun

Go to the 73-79 forum and search for "dash lights" It's a fairly common problem, but it's kind of a pain to fix. Mine are the same way, i'm going to try to fix them this summer.

on the back of the cluster there are bulbs plugged into a quarter turn thumb type screw, real easy to change them once you pull the whole cluster out. If the copper contacts are a bit dull looking you can clean them up with a pencil eraser.
