I'm an owner of a '93 Ford Aerostar (named LaTonya thanks to my kids). I bought her with cash just a few days after my divorce ... she was all I could afford at the time ... and, with over 140K miles under her belt, she has been a dependable member of the family since. She's only needed two major repairs, replacing the radiator and rebuilding the tranny *KNOCK WOOD* and, though she has her quirks, I've been very pleased.
I joined to see if I can find answers to simple repairs that I need to do myself ... yeah, I'm a woman that enjoys fixing things ... and have found this forum to be an excellent resource. See you all on the boards!!
well, I was all excited to be a member here and now I no longer own a Ford.
***Sad Story Alert!! ***
Driving home last night, my van caught fire.
She suddenly lost power and I was able to drift over to the side of the road. Smoke began coming out from under the hood and I told my kids to grab their stuff and get out, FAST! Sure enough, we got about 20 yards away and, when I looked back, there was light coming from under the body ...
I called 911, not even knowing where I was, and they calmed me down while I figured out where I was. Oddly enough, we were a block away from the volunteer fire dept! They arrived just as flames started crawling up the hood. We were unhurt but the vehicle was a total loss ... and I didn't have comprehensive so ...I'm out of luck.
