Anyone use these GE Silverstar Headlights on your rides? Do they work? Are they much brighter than stock (ie worth the price)? Any installation or use problems such as overheating?

Thinking of putting them on my Excursion for times when I can't use my LightForce lights. Any comments, recommendations, or warnings appreciated.

 

I believe you are referring to Sylvania Silverstar bulbs. Here is a link to very informative and well-written post about the Silverstars and blue-tinted bulbs in general. However, I'm sure alot of Silverstar fans are going to chime in and imply that they are the greatest invention since the wheel. This mainly due to the subjective nature of "brightness."

I run the silverstar bulbs and they are the best lights i ever had on my bronco they are alot better than stock

I work second shift, so do a ton of night driving down a 2 lane, wooded, rural highway. I replaced the stock bulbs in my Ranger with a set of Silverstars, and can attest to the huge difference. Not only has my ability to see at night improved, but driving in the rain is easier, and road signs are more visible. Buy a set, but only replace one bulb and drive around the block at night. You'll see the difference, and notice how yellow your stock bulb looks by comparison.

 

My roommate has them in his cobra and from riding with him the night time visibility compared to the stock is awesome. I will be putting them in the superduty when I get the more aerodynamic lookin headlight housing in it.

 

I have these on my wreckers and they are super. They are very bright but the best part about them is the light pattern they throw. They have a nice dense beam that covers the road ahead with no dark spots. Driving on fresh black top they dont get swallowed up like halogens. On low beam my 94 SuperDuty lights up a 4 lane bar ditch to bar ditch with out blinding on coming traffic. On high beam you can't drive fast enough to over run your lights. These will be the first up grade on every vehicle I purchase from now on.

white light is the presence of all colors (black is none). You see color of an object of what part of the light spectrum it reflects. To say that a whiter light does not improve visablity is a load of crap. most people just don't relize how yelow halogen lights are.

Silverstar bulbs are worth the money you pay for them, not so much for city driving where there are street lights, but back roads and high beams almost looks like daylight.

 

Great, but too costy....$40. I had them, then replaced them with APC Plasma White ($25) and APC Wins. I now have EuroLite's, but these just look blue....lol.

 

Silver stars are the best bulb I've used. I have a friend with the APC Plasma White bulbs, which turned out to be blue. He got a ticket for them, and had to get rid of them to get out of the ticket. If you read the box on the apc lights it says not intended for on road use. Silver star gets my money, and Advance even offers a $5 rebate too.

 

He must've had APC Super White...those are blue. APC Plasma White are DOT approved.

 

Could have been, what ever they were they were way blue.

 

Put the Sylvania Xtravisions on my wifes truck. Super white and bright. Cost less than the Silver Stars and will last longer.

 

Skipperw, I was looking at the XtraVisions. Are they really noticable brighter than stock?
