For christmas i got some fog/driving lights and the cord that hooks from the switch to the battary is only like 3 ft. long and it has to go from inside the driver side all the way to the front and then over to the other side of my truck. So what i did was just cut into my amps power line. Would this bother or harm anything?
First, I am assuming the these for lights came with a relay and you are using the supplied wiring instructions. Are you sure you're using the wire that is supposed to be used for the power connection? All the light kits I've used always have a pretty long power wire.
You can get the power for the lights from an unused fuse postion in the fuse box of the truck. Splicing into the amp's power wire will probably not cause a problem, but it could cause dimming of the lights when you turn up the volume. You can also just go buy a longer piece of wire to make the connection to the battery.
Lol, yea I know what you mean about these short wires. My foglights were like that.
I wouldn't cut into the amps power. If you had the volume turned up all the way and the foglights on, the amp's fuse might blow with the extra load. I just extended the wire all the way to the battery. Your foglight's power wire should have an inline fuse already installed.
