Hey I'm about to install 2 DIN units in my dash. As you probably know, the ford double DIN CD player is not really DOUBLE, but only 1.8 or something. Does anyone know some special tricks, how to make to units fit in there? I already have the stuff, a dvd player and a monitor, so I HAVE to squeeze it in there somehow. Anyone, any experience?? Thanks a lot!!
and I also bought an interface on crutchfield. com because I have a premium sound system. But I don't really know if that's hard to install. I think you just hook it up to your plug and the new receiver. But I'd appreciate any help from you.
this is the link for the interface. http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/P...sp?i=142C4FDK6
I'm happy for any help you have, thanks a lot TN_Jeeper.ps: do you have a two unit dvd system or all in one? And also does your system switch off while your driving?
I am not too sure what an Expedition dash is like, but if it is like a 01 superduty. American international makes a kit for the Superduty to fit two single din units into the superduty's opening. The kit number is FMK552. This may or may not help.
Max - I did the install on an 03 SD but I believe it is the same dash opening as the expedition. Not quite a DD. All you need to do is trim the "lip" off the top and bottom inside edge of the dash opening. I used a dremel and it took about 30 minutes to get it clean.
I installed a Kenwood DDX7015, it is an all in one DD unit. (No hideaway) I am not sure what nees to be done with your particular brand but most have a wire that needs to be attached to the p[arking brake. All you need to do is ground that wire somewhere permanently.
Hey TN_Jeeper! Thanks so much for your help!! So if I got you right, I just attach the cable for the parking break to a permanent ground to watch dvd's during the drive? I hope I got you right! lol
About the DD, I'm pretty sure it is the same opening, For uses the same radios most of the time anyways. I was thinking about doing it the way you were doing it (trim off the top and the bottom of the dash).
I'd love to see a picture of your system! If you have one feel free to email me a pic! mvonbrand@gmx.de! I's appreciate it! thx buddy, have a merry christmas and a happy new year! max
I'm not familiar with this new opening...
But it sounds like time to break out the dremel tool to me - and very very very carefully.
Before you trim anything though, take a GOOD look around there - make sure that if you DO trim the panel, that the units will be mountable, that they will clear any structural components that are behind there... nothing would be worse than trimming the plastic, then finding out that you can't get them in there after all.

That's correct. All you have to do is permanently ground the green wire.
