2003 Expedition 4x4 5.4
I bought this truck in April and love it. However two strange things have started happening. When driving under 40 mph, the engine sounds really loud like it doesn't want to change into higher gear. Can't really classify it as a roaring, just doesn't sound quite right. Also, when turning left or right from stop sign, I hear a grinding noise coming from front end. Any ideas would be much appreciated!!!

You may need the clip installed in the front differential. It's a known problem and Ford has a TSB for this.
You can search for it here. There was much written about it. As far as the tranny I don't know.

Tech Service Bulletin (TSB)
When Ford has a problem with something often, they put out service instructions to the technicians.
If it doesn't do it in four wheel drive its what I told you--FRONT differential needs spring clips installed.
If the noise were coming from the rear they also have a TSB out for that.
Take it in and let them fix it for free.
