Here in Western Washington, we have a small snowstorm. So I engaged my 4WD and after I got it into 4w low for the trip down the hill I am unable to get the truck into high range 4WD, or even 2WD.

I should mention that I have a 4.0 liter engine and a auto transmission. In addition I have (on the few times I have used the 4WD) experienced minor trouble getting the truck into the proper range. But this is the first time it has stayed in 4WD. I have owned the truck since new, and ought to have it dealt with under warr. BTW how long is the warrenty- if anyone knows? I bought it mar 99.

check your fuse at the power distribution box under the hood.... it may be blown and check your transfer case oil.

 

You probably already did this, but make sure you have the brake depressed and the transmission in Neutral when you select 2-High.
As described in the owner's manual. Lots of folks overlook these
steps when they rarely utilize 4WD.

 

RTFM is the answer, Thank you. It was, in fact, the neutral part of the process escaped me. Obviously I was in neutral at some point in my attempts to engage low, but I failed to notice.

 

Don't feel bad. A friend of mine who is a FORD RANGER ENGINEER, drove around for a week in low range complaining about the 4x4 system. It happens!
