Gas Mileage Improvements?

i was just wondering what i could do to get better gas mileage? are there specific products that are proven to help? i have a 2003 ranger, with a 3.0 liter v6, and a 5 speed manual transmission.

What MPG are you getting? In general..... syntetic oils, (motor & trans/diff) can get you a little. Also free-flowing airfilters help.

Yup, Ive found synthetic fluids can make a difference at highway speeds, I've seen 1.8-2.2 better mpg running 55-70 with Havoline 5W-30 synthetic in the crankcase, compared to dino Havoline 5W-30. The increase isn't so noticeable in summer city driving, don't know about winter yet.

I've also found trying different gasolines will make a noticeable difference in mpg. In my case 2-4 mpg, with Chevron being the best, Texaco next, the others a distant third.

So try, say 5 tanks each, of different fuels available in your area, keep track of fuel mileage & driveability from each, then swap between the two best performing fuels every six months, or any time sooner, if mpg or driveability suffer.

Keep your tires aired up & the alignment checked.

Keep your foot out of the throttle, mash it like you have a raw egg between it & your foot & up shift asap.

Time your lights in traffic so you don't have to completely stop.

If you can, pick your route & time to travel it, such that traffic is lghtest & traffic lights are at a minimum.

In other words, CHANGE your driving habits for the better, become a SMARTER driver!!!!

Keep her tuned up & AVOID those gas gadgets, they don't work!!!!

Your mpg tests, if you take the time to do them, will tell you the true story as to which fuel is realy the least expensive to run & it may not be the lowest cost per gallon one either.

The immediate out of pocket cost per mile driven, may end up the same, with a top tier fuel, but if your getting better mpg from the top tier gas, your putting fewer deposits into the engine & oil, so the longterm benifits are a big PLUS!!!!

Check out my post in perfomance section on 3.0 I added a lot of bolt ons to increase my mpg! A better breathing engine performs better so try K&N air filter and better flowing exhaust. I added underdrive pulleys, electric fan, cold air intake, headers with dual exhaust and a bunch of other things for perfomance and I gained about 4-5 mpg but I spent a alot of $$$ I also run synthetic oil and I keep my tires at max psi and baby the gas pedal!!!
