likely cause???/

At 40mph my truck has a noticeable vibration in the front end. It does not matter whether or not my foot is on the accelerator or not, it's there either way. I'm guessing it's either the bearings, tie rod ends, or the ball joints. Any suggestions on which would be the likely culprit? It also goes clunk when making left hand turns or after breaking during a turn. I'm perplexed on this....?

Start by lifting the front of your truck off the ground. Then grab a tire at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions, and see if you can rock it back and forth. Repeat at the 10 and 4, and the 8 and 2, for both sides. Spin the tire, listen for any grinding.

Then grab any steering components, control arms, shocks, etc. and start shaking them. Look for anything loose under there.

Something I have seen on a car: Loose lug nuts. Check those too.

Well did as stated above, and I have some play both vertically as well as horizontally. If I get motivated enough to do the tie rods, and the ball joints would it be necessary to change the upper ball joints as well? They look like there hard to get out.

nobody has any input on the toughness level for upper ball joints in a 96? Is this a 6pack job or am I looking at a case+?
