2000 expy eb using oil?
I have a 2000 Expy with 5.4 and 61,000 miles and in between oil changes (4000 miles) I am having to ad about a quart of oil. I can not find any kind of leak or oil on the garage floor, and the thing does not smoke. Where does oil go and what makes an engine use oil? Any suggestions as to what I can check for would be appreciated. Otherwise the thing runs great and my wife loves it. Thanks Brian

I have a 2001 Expy EB 5.4 with 50k miles and notice about the same oil consumption of 1 quart in about 3k-4k miles. I do see some faint blue smoke on start up which would indicate worn valve seals and or guides. I am somewhat disappointed in that my 92 explorer with 200k on it did not use any noticable oil between changes. It is a light wieght oil they recommend in the Expy so maybe some of it gets burned. I live in Buffalo NY so with or cold climate I stay with the recommended oil.

This has been discussed before and it was mentioned that a bad pcv valve might be sucking engine oil into the intake manifold. Since mine was using/losing a quart too, I replaced my pcv valve. Much to my dismay, this did no good.
