I just bought a 1976 F150 4X4. She has a 390 manual 4 speed tranny.
The body is still in great shape, no dents, but has some surface rust spots.
It has a new rear end, new U-Joint, and runs strong. The tail gate is missing.
This is a nice truck. I gave $1,200 for it. Does that sound like a good price for this truck? Here's the information from the drivers door.

I have owned alot of ford trucks, but never a 4X4. I also have a 1967 F120
and 1979 F150. I can't want to get this one on the road. I live way back in the woods and we got alot of snow and it's muddy here in the winter, so I needed a good truck.

well, the 390 wasnt available in the 4x4s, but anything is possible if you put out enough money. i wouldnt worry about it though, it's something im looking at doing. sounds like you got a good deal though. doesnt sound like a screaming deal, but you definately dont seem to have been ripped from the information you gave us. i would have done it
The seller said it was a 390 so I took his word for it. I'll take a closer look today and find out for sure. It has headers and a 4-barrell Edelbrook carb on it. I know it will get up and go..........
The vin decoder I went to lists it as an F-150 4X4 with a 360 2V. The weird thing is it also lists it as a 78 model but FEs weren't available in 78. 360s easily become 390s at rebuild time and as old as the truck is it may have been modified. There is no way to tell externally. You have to measure the stoke. 'Course at sale time many 360s get a no-cost, instant upgrade to a 390
