Drive Shaft Disconnect question

I purchased my '97 Expy about 2 years ago and it has a choke pull looking thing on the floor next to the console. The person I purchased it from stated they towed the expy behind a motor home and this disconnected the rear axle from the running gear. Has anyone ever heard of this before? I would like to get rid of it but I am not sure what that would entail. Do I need a different drive shaft? Thanks for any info.

Carl

Driveshaft disconnect

They use them to disconnect the shaft from the rearend so they can tow vehicles with automatics easily and not use a dolly. To get rid of it will require a different driveshaft. Look at the rear of the driveshaft if there is a apparatus hanging around the u-joint it is still there. Sometimes causes strange vibration problems.

Yep, looked today and there is a thing hanging off the u-joint at the rear end. I guess this means I need a different driveshaft to take this off. Thanks. BTW - anybody need (or want) one of these and want to trade driveshafts???
