I had the same problem with my 03 EB. It took a long time for the techs to be able to duplicate the growl that I was hearing. Eventually they did narrow it down to the muffler and replace it - problem went away.

My Ford tech was able to duplicate the noise by putting the car in neutral after pulling it onto the lift (don't put it in Park - just use parking brake). After that, a light acceleration in neutral would duplicate the noise. Either way, the tech could not duplicate the noise if he put the vehicle in Park after driving onto the lift - go straight from Drive to Neutral.

Hope that info helps with your issue.

I have the same problem exactly.

I asked the dealer yesterday when he squeezed me in for an appointment to have my subwoofer amp replacement installed.

He didn't have time to look at it but also didn't hear of it before.

Any suggestions?
2004 Expy built in Sept 2003.

Thanks for all the help. It makes the noise from a start when your light on the pedal. mainly around town, maybe getting hotter because of stop and go? Any more imput would be great help.
Thanks

My 03 Navigator makes the same sound, and the dealer told me that they didn't what it was.

I have an appointment for this coming Friday.

He wants me to print all info I find on the net.

Please write if you experience or have experienced this problem.

There is a TSB for the 2003 which I'm not sure applies to me with an early built 2004 (Sept 2003).

Good Morning,
The last vist to the dealer they were going to do the TSP for a exhaust baffle for the 2003 expedition . They said they did that but did not help., but them told me they could not here the noise ?????. I think They are full of it.I am going back to talk to aservice manager to get this resolved one and for all. I keep you posted.

Hey Minuteman

Went to the shop yesterday and the tech heard it outside but not on the lift.

He called the Ford Tech Hotline and they said they had a "few" complaints on the 2004s having muffler noise problems and authorized it's replacement.

There is nothing in Oasis about it---yet.

It's on order.

Hope you can do the same---Bob

There is a TSB on the rear end too. It will groan when you have any input on the pedal. They basically rebuild the rear end to the "correct" specs.
