Question SVO Heads

Greetings,

I own a 90 Ranger 2.9L 4x4 and I am looking for a set of SVO Heads for my V6.

I dont know where to look for the very elusive heads...I am also looking for a header kit for the same engine...any suggestions would be and will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. aprox on cost of above mentioned items.

Thank You Librac23

Welcome to FTE!!!

Never heard of SVO heads for the 2.9L.

JBA makes headers.

thanks for the info.

I'm looking for heads really that are compatible with the 2.9L other wise I will have to find an engine that already has them.

There are of course the World Products heads, but they are not a performance improvement, just redesigned to solve the 2.9 cracking problem. I have them on mine. -TD

cool....aside from the heads..is there any way to really trick out a 2.9L? I might have to find a 4.0 and Pump it...or there is another way I think I could go..

quick question. will a 289 Fit in a 90s ranger chassis with out too much modification?

Yes, it's a very common swap, there are motor mounts and headers available from many different sources. Planning a 5.0 swap onto mine, looking for an engine right now. Here's some more links with some info:

As far as tricking out the 2.9 goes, there isn't a whole lot of bolt-on stuff available, you would have to tear into it and do some basic hi-po machining mods, and for the money you might as well swap in a 4.0 or V8. -TD

Thank you again TD...this info will help greatly. you have given me other options to explore...

The 289 that I have came out of a 67 For Galaxy..would have been nice to rebult that car but it sat on the ground for too many yrs and the frame.....well was considerably rotted...so my Dad and I pulled the motor and the Trans....impressively the tail seal is in perfect condition..the yoke from the Driveshaft came out still Shiny and the fluid is and still...Bright red...although the engine oil looked like Choclate syrup...

The Motor was carb fed...and I would like to retain the Fuel Injection...I know I will need to replace the stock computer..but they dont make a puter for a 289...so would the puter for a 302 work in its place? and I was planing on using a Painless wiring harness...so all of my own Old stock harness will have to go right?

well...thanks again..you have helped me out greatly

A 302 is a 289 with a slightly longer stroke.

As Mike said. So the 302(5.0) EFI stuff will bolt right on to the 289. And you shouldn't have to replace the entire harness, just the engine section. -TD
