Angry Passenger Air Bag Off (Annoying Dash Light)

2004 F-150

Has anyone experienced the annoying BRIGHT LIGHT of the "PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF" in the upper center of the dash? A small lunchmate cooler and a light Briefcase in the passenger seat make this light come on, and at night it is very distracting! Can this light be deactivated? Sensing the weight of a child in that seat that is less than 60 pounds also makes this light come on.

I'm all for the 2nd generation air bag, but this light really bugs me! I wish I could turn this light off without affecting the air bag sensing ability.

Any answers?

It's just a light, pull the panel out and remove the bulb...

If you remove the bulb you will probably find the air bag light on the instrument cluster blinking at you because it thinks there is a problem.

just something i've gotten used to, its designed to be that way. easier than having to remember to turn the airbag on or off manually.

Im not certain, but the seatbelt probably has nothing to do with it, its just the weight in the seat or lack of weight..Racerguy and Toreador are both correct on this one I would say..

Mine does it with my dog in the seat...

I would just try unplugging it.
Just pull your dash panel off, there's a little plug back there at the top. Just unplug and I bet all works fine.
If it creates another annoying light, then plug it back in and try black tape.

I hate all things about a vehicle that tries to be too smart.
Seat belt warning, air bag light, auto locking of doors, and so on.

I'll check it out...I've heard some have trouble getting the seat belt warning set to OFF...thanks! It's a PITA when you're doin utility type stuff like pull up and get out, etc to have the doors lock...good if ya have kids I guess.

I followed the manual and was able to disable a lot of that stuff...seat belt warning, door locks, etc. Only one of the procedures did I have to try more than once to get it set the way I wanted. There's no way to disable the airbag light on the dash, though.

I had a big screen TV with an annoyingly bright power light. Black electrical tape took care of the issue. I think with a little time, a piece of tape could be cut to match nicely to cover the light without making it look tacky.
