Can anybody give me some advice on cleaning out the throttle body on my 2001 Expedition 5.4L.
In the past, every 6 mos or so i would cleanup the carb on my older cars but i'm not so sure it would be safe to do on fuel injected cars and trucks.Would i possibly damage a sensor or clog something up, is this a safe thing to do? Let me know
Ford says not to do it, but I did mine a couple years ago with excellent results. I used regular old carb cleaner, but there are products that claim to be TB coating safe too. You might also try some Seafoam for deep cleaning.
Here is a thread I posted awhile back. I was having to clean mine about every 5k miles (sticking gas pedal problem). The first couple of times I used mineral spirits, the last time I used a TB cleaner (said it was safe for coated TBs). So far, so good.....no sticking. I'd buy a good quality TB cleaner and spray the TB and butterfly real good and wipe clean with a lint free rag.
Well, how hard is it too remove the throttle body completely, and or fuel injectors.I want to clean it up inside, but i'm worried about all the crud going back into the intake.
