I have a hood on a F100. Someone tried to fill side emblem holes; most of the holes (but not all) are popping in. I would like to add back the proper hood side emblems, but am not exactly sure which year.
I know it's not a 55, because I have one of them on my panel, and the holes don't line up.
I think it's a 53/54 hood, because the farthest rearward "hole" is only about 2 inches from the back edge of the hood, and the longest span is almost 15 inches.
The diagram of the 7 known holes are something like this:
..........X.....X................................. ..X
.................................................. .............X
...X
.................X........5 1/4 in...........X
rear...............(this is passenger side)...................front
Overall length between extreme known holes (X) is about 14 3/4 inches.....
Rearmost hole is about 2 inches forward of edge of hood.
I don't know if this is all the holes, but I was hoping someone could ID this.
The inside is a thick coat of fibreglass, so you can't see the holes from there.
Thanks, Paul
PS: Sorry for the dotted lines, but, if I didn't use them, all the Xs get squished together on the left margin.
It may be from a (53) Mercury truck as they have a Swoosh over the M350 the Swoosh would account for all the extra holes as well as the length. Maybe Nathan will chime in and he can measure one of his.
I would guess it's a 53-54 Ford hood. The boomerang takes seven and the words take five fasteners if memory serves. The big holes are for the boomerang. Check out my gallery. The first picture in primer shows the holes for a 53-54. The boomerangs are expensive though. You may want to just weld up the extra holes and go with the F-100 words. I have seen this on several local trucks. JMHO, John
