My '94 Ranger has a strong coolant smell when I am not in cooling mode. If I select Heat, steam comes out of the vents, the window fogs up and the smell happens.
I removed the heater core and pressurized it in a bucket of water: no bubbles. I can find no leaks under the hood.
Any ideas?
First thought was heater core. Second thought was hose connections.
However it still could be heater core that only leaks with pressurized hot coolant in it. If there is a pinhole or crack that dosen't open until it warms up,
I also have a 94 ranger with the same symptoms. I have been fortunate, however, in that I've never had to do any repairs on this truck. This means I have no idea where the heater core is!
I know that on some cars, it's a real pain to get to. Before I pay someone to do it, can anyone tell me where it is and how difficult it is to replace?
Found it, thanks to you guys. It was easy indeed to get out, so I immersed the core in a bucket of water with one connection closed off. Then I blew into the other connection and saw all the bubbles come from one of the top connections.
I can see how animals like antifreeze; it tastes pretty sweet.
