Looking for input on my F250 SD

I have an 2002 F250 SD with a 5.4L and 3.73 4X4 Crew with a short box.
I want to get a Crownline 266BR Boat, the boat alone comes in at 4100 to 4400 lbs. I am thinking a trailer is about 1500 lbs. and gear and gas to be about 500 lbs for a total of about 6600 lbs. The Ford owner's guide states the Max trailer weight is 7300 lbs and GCWR at 13700. I know this is under the max but am I pushing it? Normal drive will be 20 miles round trip, but 2 to 3 times a year will pull it about 500 miles round trip. Mostly flat land some hills for about 20 miles nothing to big. I have been pulling a 18 foot boat so this is a big jump in size and weight. Thanks for any input.....

Get the boat and have fun. You might not win many races to the ramp, but the truck will pull it fine. It doesn't look like you'll be trailering the boat enough to concern yourself with fuel economy and torque improvements of a new gear set, let alone a diesel or V10.

The only thing I would be concerned about is your receiver. The max weight carrying capacity of most receivers that Ford uses is 6000 lbs. I'm assuming that you're not using a weight distributing hitch since it's a boat. You might have to upgrade the receiver to one with a higher weight carrying capacity.
