Hello, both brake (stop) lights on my 2000 Ranger are not working. The turn signal and back up lights do work. Took it to a local shop for diagnosis, they told me that the brake switch needed to be replaced, got a new brake switch from Ford and installed it myself yet the problem presists. Not sure what else to try, the wires do not appear to be broken. Any other suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks - Eric
The brake lghts and 2 or 3 other items (see the fuse page in your owners manual) are probably wired to the same fuse.. If none are working replace the fuse, poblem solved. If fuse is OK check for 12 volts at the light bulb sockets with a 12 volt test lamp. If you see the voltage the sockets are not grounded. No voltage, check the brake light switch.
PINPOINT TEST G: THE STOPLAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE
² G1: CHECK THE FUSE
² G2: CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION (BPP) SWITCH
² G3: CHECK THE BPP SWITCH OPERATION
² G4: CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR OPEN
Measure the resistance between LH rear stop/park lamp, circuit 57 is BK, and ground for G4.
