Bad Ring and Pinion Question
I recently purchased a 2002 Ranger Ext. Cab 4x4, 10,500 miles. I took it to a dealership recently under warranty for what I thought was the famous "slip yoke causing a bump or thump on acceleration" problem. They looked the truck over and told me my rear differential Ring and Pinion were bad. He said there was a lot of play and slop in the gears and didn't recommend I drive the truck until it is repaired. Why would the ring and pinion be bad/wore with only 10,500 miles on the truck? The dealer said it could have come bad from the factory. Could the previous owner have abused the truck towing/hauling? Does anyone have experience with this or heard of this being a common problem? I'm waiting for them to get the new parts to install right now. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Its possible you just got a bad unit or the previous owner changed the fluid and didn't put enough back in.I havn't heard of anyone having this kind of problem with that few miles,at least its under warrenty!
