dont want to start a big fuss, and i know i'm going to be told to use the search function. but it didnt give a difinitive answer so hear goes,
with all the NV4500 info out there has anybody come up with a decent explanation of EXACTLY what parts to use and possibly a heads up of where to locate said parts to put the NV4500 behind and FE (390) in a 73-79 ford truck
F-250 in my case!!
In a small article in 4 wheel and off road a while ago they put an NV5600 behind a 460 in a 1979 pickup. They gave all of the sources of where to get the parts to do the swap. I believe they may have parts to do your swap as well. I will see if I can dig up that magazine. Otherwise you could try advanced adapters. Also find out what pattern that NV4500 has. If it is like any of the other transmissions then it may bolt right up to an FE bellhousing. But I just cannot confirm that this is true.
I am also interested in putting a NV4500 behind a 390. I have not called advance adapters yet but I think they might have the answer. There are several sources for Clark 5-speeds and I have seen their ads in the back of 4wheel and Off-road and Four Wheeler magazine. The Clark 5-speed has .8:1 5th gear while the NV4500 has a.7:1 5th gear. To me, if you are going the overdrive route, it makes sense to get as much overdrive as possible and the NV4500 would be the winner as .7 is higher is than .8.
