How much does a ranger weigh?

I just recently moved and I am about to register my car in my new state (well, pseudo-state, Washington DC). There is a difference in registration fees for cars weighing less than 3500 lbs and more than 3500 lbs. How much does my 1994 ford ranger (reg. cab, 4-cyl) weigh?

Thanks!

Chelsea

Welcome to FTE, tchelseat!
My 98 Ranger, regular cab, 4 cyl came in at 3050 on the dot when I had to register it in California. I'd say about ten pounds of that was mud though.

Is that the ACTUAL weight of the vehicle or the manufacturer's rating? I know in MO it's the weight rating, not the actual weight of the truck that determines what plates you get, how it's registered, whether or not it's subject to emissions testing...-IKE

Wow, didn't know they put it on the scale.... they sure don't do it in the State of Missouri, even though my truck was purchased in Indiana with an Indiana certificate of origin...

They pick over your truck with a fine tooth comb if you register an out of state vehicle in California. You have to have it weighed by a state licensed Weighmaster, you have to have the vehicle inspected by a licensed member of the DMV, and you need to have it pass smog.

I'm getting ready to move back to Ca. I moved from Ca. to Colorado in 95. Are they making sure you pass all your OBD II readiness tests there? How often are they making you do smog now? In Colorado, it is every two years and your vehicle does not have to pass the Evap. test.

I quess maybe I'll have to take my topper off when I get there although I don't think it weighs more than 100 lbs. I've never heard of car needing to be weighed there. Hmm, you learn something new everyday now.

Thanks

If your truck is set up for Cali. emissions standards, then you are good to go on registering it back here. They will just do the standard smog test, which is pretty inclusive. You have to have it done every two years. Because my truck is only federal emissions, they had to do an enhanced smog test on it when I first brought it in. Don't know why, they just did.
