Cracked Fan!
94 Ranger, 4.0... Getting started on water pump change, attempting to remove fan/clutch assembly and notice that there are many "stress" cracks around the base of every blade on the fan. Is this normal?? Anyone else ever noticed the same thing? Should I go ahead and replace it while I'm going? $43 from Ford...

I had a similar thing happen to my '94. I sold it last summer and when the new owner was changing the old radiator he noticed the cracking. He went ahead and replaced the fan and clutch with new OEM parts. I guess the cracks won't affect performance, but you sure don't want it shattering on you.

Yes replace it while you have the pump out. Supposedly they can self destruct and you really dont want that to happen. I got mine this past december about $50 from the dealer. Keep an eye on the new one.
