Well, my truck finally had a problem. I got a flat yesterday. I hit a curb and cut into a sidewall. I put a ding on my rim about the diameter of a sharpie. While that alone was enough to break my heart, when I went to have my matching spare tire transferred to my "real" wheel, I couldn't help but notice how "paper thin" the side walls are on these Hancook tires. Why would Ford put a flimsy thin tire on a full-size truck?
Oh, one more thing. Why is it that when you drive a POS beater, nothing bad ever happens to it? I've had my XLT since February, and so far have a chipped windshield, chipped bumper, and jacked up rim.
ALmost all cars have pathetic tires right off the lot. Unless you buy a sports car or somthing REALLY expensive, it will have really bad tires.
When I bought my truck, I wanted the cheapest street tires, not the all terrain because I was going to replace the tires myself, but it didnt work out that way.
Never depend on stock tires.
I couldn't help but laugh when I read your thread BLiTzNick. Last night I chipped a 1/4 in by 1 in piece out of my rim and shredded my 2 day old 285/70/17 BFG on storm drain I couldn't see parking at a friends house. I could put my fist through the hole. Luckily Sam's Club is replacing it for free. I just can't drive my truck very far on the crappy little spare.

Price cutting, the same reason there is no longer a lamp under the hood to illuminate the engine compartment or a light in the glove box. Of course I'm surprised that they would go with a low grade spare tire after all the Firestone issues they had.

It's not just a low grade spare, all 5 of the tires are exactly the same. I'm watching ebay, but so far they only have a set of 4 rims that match mine. I just need one, so I'll have to possibly give Brian a call.
I don't know...I'm happy with the BF Goodrich Rugged Trail T/A 275/65-18 tires on mine. Depends on which model you get as far as which tire you get. I think if you get a 4x2 Lariat, you get the LONG Trail BFG tires, not the RUGGED Trail BFG tires. But yeah, I've seen some pretty cheap tires on new cars. I think the worst I've seen (this was a few years ago - on Chevy S-10's I think) were those Tiger Paw tires (from Uniroyal?)...yuck!
