Heat riser tube?

This is a '73 F-100 with a '71 302 engine and a 2150 Motorcraft carb. On the back of the passenger side exhaust manifold, just before it connects to the exhaust pipe, there is a metal tube coming up to the carb. It stops near the carb and then a rubber tube takes over. The rubber tube is connected to a port at the top of the carb (air horn) and appears to be taking fresh air from the air cleaner. This doesn't make sense to me. I have noticed that there is nothing connected to the choke's heat riser connection. I am assuming that the tube mentioned is actually the hot air tube (heat riser) and that it should go to the choke connection instead of where it goes. Sound right? Thanks.

Nope. The parts you see are correct. You just have half the system installed. There should be a fitting where the metal tube connects to the exhaust manifold where another tube can connect. That tube which is missing goes to the hot air part of the choke. That way the hot air rises to the choke and draws clean air from the air cleaner in a loop. Don't know how well it really works but that's the way a diagram I saw of it was laid out.
